The agitation for a separate High Court bench to be instituted permanently in the Western Odisha has brought life to a grinding halt in the Western Odisha on Monday.

The lawyers association in the four districts of Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Deogarh have called for a 3-day bandh. Kalahandi district is observing the 12-hour bandh today from dawn to dusk. Roads have been blocked.

Market, educational institutions have remained closed and heavy wheelers carrying cement, coals etc. have been kept off road. Civilians and emergency services, though, have been exempted.

Police personnel have been active to avoid any untoward incident. No incidents of damage have been reported.

Different political parties and organizations have extended their support over the bandh.
