Woman Maoist Carrying Rs 4 Cash Prize On Head Killed In Kandhamal Encounter


Phulbani: A woman cadre Maoist was killed in an overnight encounter with Special Opearation Group (SOG) jawans on Sunday in a forest near Barakhama in Kandhamal district.

Addressing media persons in Bhubaneswar today, DGP RP Sharma said the killed woman Maoist, identified as Banila from Gariabandh area of neigbouring Chhattisgarh, was a member of the Kandhamal-Kalahandi division of CPI (Maoist). The woman Maoist was carrying a cash prize of Rs 4 lakh on her head, he added.

During the encounter, SOG jawans recovered one 303 rifle, 32 live bullets and Rs 4,000 from the possession of the dead Maoist.

Describing the encounter as a big morale booster for security forces engaged in anti-naxal operations, the DGP informed that it is the first instance in Kandhamal district in which a woman Maoist cadre had been killed.

One SOG jawan also sustained bullet injuries during the encounter and has been admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur and he was out of danger, the DGP said.
