Rourkela(PTI): Three persons have been arrested in the steel city for their alleged involvement in betting during the ongoing Indian Premier League cricket matches, the police said today.
Thirty-three mobile phones, televison sets, a laptop and calculators were also seized by the police team during a raid at Nalla Road area here yesterday night, the police said.
“We have arrested three persons involved in the betting racket and seized cash amounting to Rs 9,04,000, 33 mobile phones and other materials used for the purpose,” said Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Panposh, Padmini Sahoo.
The arrested persons were identified as Masood Alam (32), Parwez Alam (37) and Uttam Kumar Sharma (52), the SDPO said.
Some members of the racket escaped from the place and efforts were on to nab them, the police said.
On April 29, the police had claimed to have busted an inter-state gang allegedly involved in betting during IPL cricket matches and arrested six persons in connection with it from Sambalpur district.
The police recovered more than Rs 67,000 in cash and 10 mobile phones from the possession of the accused.
