With too much to ask for, the Indian team withered on the final day of the Perth Test. Team Australia registered their first win in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series and young wicket keeper Tim Paine first test win as captain.
India on Day 5 had to get 175 runs for victory on a crumbling Perth wicket. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins – the two pacers rocked the Indian lower order with pace and the rough patches. Rishabh Pant scored a valiant 30 before being caught at short midwicket by Peter Handscomb of Nathan Lyon. Team India scored 140 in their second innings just adding 28 runs to their Day 4 total.
After 9 months, Australia lodged their first win since their 118 run win against South Africa at Durban.
The Perth test saw Australia dominating the first innings with 326 runs to India’s 283. Virat Kohli was the lone centurion.
Team Australia then added 243 in their second innings and set India a target of 287 in reply bundled out for 140.
Nathan Lyon was adjudged Man of the Match for his 8 wickets.
