The Border Gavaskar Test series commenced on a stronger footing with India taking the lead 1-0. In the ongoing series captain Kohli will have to endure absence of few star performers as Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin and Prihvi Shaw are out of the squad for the second test starting on December 14 at Perth.
Rohit Sharma caught a lower abdominal injury and had to be taken off in Australia’s second innings in the Adelaide test. R Ashwin prized scalp of 6 wickets that fancied India’s win, on Friday the Indian bowling line up will see the absence of the offie as he, too, picked up a left side abdominal strain in the first test. An overwhelmed Ashwin bowled 52.5 overs in the second innings – the maximum by an Indian bowler in the fourth innings. His intimidating nagging length and use of rough patches will surely be missed.
However Prithvi Shaw continues to keep the team in a suspended state as his ankle injury is still some days away from being fully cured. He got injured while attempting to take a catch, twisted his ankle in the Cricket Australia XI warm up match in Sydney.
The possible players replacing the injured would be all-rounder Hanuman Vihari, Ravindra Jadeja and pacers Umesh Yadav, Bhubaneshwar Kumar.
