Google celebrates the 94th birthday of Verghese Kurien, the founder of Amul, by dedicating a doodle on its homepage featuring the ‘milkman of India’ with a can in his hand along with a buffalo in the picture.
Kurien, who is known as the ‘Father of the White Revolution’ was also the man behind the creation and success of ‘Amul’. Kurien was born on November 26, 1921 in Kozhikode, Kerala, was graduated from Loyola College in 1940 and later completed his engineering from Guindy College of Engineering, Chennai.
Verghese Kurien has successfully set up 30 institutions of excellence (AMUL, GCMMF, IRMA, NDDB) which are owned, controlled by farmers and run by professionals.
On September 9, 2012, Varghese Kurien passed away in Nadiad, Gujarat at the age of 90 years old.
