Initiate suo moto probe into mining scam, Congress urges CBI


Bhubaneswar: With polls ahead, senior Congress leader Srikant Jena on Friday once again demanded a CBI probe into the multi-crore mining scam in Odisha. In a letter to CBI director Ranjit Sinha, the Union minister urged the investigating agency to initiate a probe suo moto, sources said.

Since the Shah Commission also expressed serious concern about and pointed out that the irregularity in mining sector in Odisha would be more than Rs 59,000 crore, so there is a need to initiate a CBI probe, Jena stated. He further reasoned that the mining scam has its effect on the state’s polity, so only a CBI investigation can unmask several character involved in the shoddy transactions.
