BDA bulldozes two-storied restaurant in capital

Bhubaneswar, January 17: In one of the major demolition drives in recent history, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on Friday bulldozed a two-storied bar-cum-restaurant at Jayadev Vihar Square in the city.

Citing reasons BDA officials stated the owner of the commercial building called ‘Somu’s Cave’ not only encroached government land, but also used the plot of land for commercial purpose, though it was allotted for residential purpose.

The building located adjacent to NH-5 in one of the busiest traffic zones of the capital city, was in the eye of a storm for more than 13 years as the BDA was objecting to its commercial use.

Asked if any more illegal structures in the capital would be pulled down in near future, the BDA sources revealed at least 30 such buildings would be brought down  under in a few days.
