Bhubaneswar, Jan 1:
Next few days State Election Commission (SEC) is expected to declare poll dates for two important Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) Cuttack and Baripada. The declaration of the date is due after the state Government issued notification to conduct elections for the two ULBs.
Earlier the SEC had recommended elections as the five year term of both the urban bodies are to be expired on 12 February 2014.
While Cuttack is Municipal Corporation (CMC) Baripada is Municipality. However both Cuttack and Baripada located in two distinct regions coastal and north part of the state, carry lots of weight for political parties in the state. The loss and defeat could carry symbolic message for the shape of politics that could be expected in the crucial election year.
After delimitation the no of words has increased from 54 to 59 in CMC. This time the CMC mayor would be from among the elected Scheduled Caste women as the post has been reserved for them.
The newly floated political outfit Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) after Election Commission approval is expected to enter poll battle from both the urban bodies. The possible impact of Pyarimohan Mohapara’s political maturity will be put to test this time.
