Mahanadi water regulation: Odisha, Chhattisgarh to hold talks on Aug 22

Bhubaneswar: After the recent flood havoc, Odisha and Chhattisgarh governments have agreed to discuss regulation of Mahanadi water on a regular basis. The officials of both states would attend a high-level meeting in Burla under Sambalpur district on August 22, official sources revealed.

It can be recalled that after the devastating floods in 2011, both states had agreed to hold regular meetings to monitor floodwater before the Monsoon season every year.

It can be recalled that 90% of catchment area of River Mahanadi lies in Chhattisgarh and a number of small dams and barrages have been constructed in Chhattisgarh and Odisha too has been contemplating to construct a second dam (apart from Hirakud) on River Mahanadi.
