Mining scam: CEC team in Odisha on two-day visit

Bhubaneswar: To examine the statutory clearances of various mining leases operating in Odisha, a central empowered committee (CEC) team comprising secretary NK Jiwarika and Madan Mohan Vyas arrived in the state capital on Monday. The CEC team is appointed by the Supreme Court and is on a two-day visit to the state, sources said.

As per schedule, the team would discuss the status of mines in the state with senior government officials in the city on Monday and would have a meeting with the mining lease holders on Tuesday, sources said.

It is worth mentioning that the Supreme Court had ordered temporary closure of 26 major mines in Odisha on the grounds of non-renewal of leases following the recommendation of the CEC.
