Bhubaneswar: Based on complaints of irregularities and malpractices in the 2014 general elections, the Orissa High Court on Thursday served notices to BJD MP Balabhadra Majhi and three MLAs. The court has asked the four to file their replies within three weeks and fixed September 12 as the next date of hearing of the case, sources said.
Apart from Nabarangpur MP Majhi, the three MLAs who were served notices included Brahmagiri BJD MLA and food Supply and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Dasburma, Soro BJD MLA Parshuram Dhada and Laxmipur Congress MLA Kailash Kuleisika, sources added.
Earlier, challenging the victories of these candidates, their opponents have filed separate petitions in the Orissa High Court. Those who knocked the HC door challenging the poll results included former MP and Congress candidate Pradeep Majhi (who lost to BJD candidate Balabhadra Majhi), former MLA and senior Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra (who lost to minister Dasburma from Brahmagiri Assembly constituency for the second consecutive time).
The two other defeated candidates who moved HC are Congress candidate Mrutyunjay Jena (who lost to BJD MLA Parshuram Dhada in Soro Assembly constituency) and former MP Hema Gamang, who contested from Laxmipur Assembly on a BJD ticket, but lost to Congress MLA Kailash Kuleisika).
