    A new study has been shown that red wine prevents degenerative memory loss associate with growing old and light on to some beneficial uses of a compound present in grapes called resveratrol for the treatment of age related diseases like Alzheimer’s disease.

    Resveratrol has been widely praised for its potential to prevent heart disease.

    But the researchers also believed that it has a positive effect on the hippocampus, an area of the brain which is responsible for critical functions like memory, mood and learning.

    This study was published in the journal Scientific Reports and carried out at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Medicine and Director of Neurosciences at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine Institute in USA. Professor Ashok K. Shetty, Ph.D., at the institute has been studying the potential benefit of resveratrol, an antioxidant that is found in the skin of red grapes, as well as in red wine, peanuts and some berries.
