Rs 2.6 cr in cash, liquor worth Rs 68 lakh seized during polls: CEO

Bhubaneswar: Chief electoral officer (CEO) Mon Sharma on Friday informed that the Election Commission has seized a total of Rs 2.61 crore in cash and liquor worth Rs 68 lakh during the two phases of elections in Odisha.

Speaking about the complaints lodged, the CEO stated that about 600 complaints, mostly in connection with hoardings on government buildings, advertisements on newspapers and distribution of money among the voters were received by the EC.

However, poll observers stated the cash and liquor seized was only the tip of the iceberg of the amount of the actual amounts being transacted by political parties during the two phase polls in state.
