Student Shortage: Government Closes 735 Schools In Odisha


Bhubaneswar: The School & Mass Education Department has decided to close down 735  government run primary and upper primary schools across the state where less than 10 students were admitted in the current academic year.

Th students of the schools which have been closed would be readmitted or transferred to other nearby schools revealed the notification issued by the department. The 735 schools which have been closed down included 714 primary and 21 upper primary schools. The teachers of the schools would be transferred to other schools.

A total number of 4,659 students were enrolled in those schools in the last academic year which has dwindled further in the present year.

As per the notification by the department, the highest 125 including 121 primary schools will be closed in Rayagada district which had 524 students. In Kondhmal 93 schools have been shut down permanently.
