A militant dressed in military outfit opened fire in a mosque on Friday in Christchurch in New Zealand. 49 people have been dead in the mosque terror attack. More than 20 people have been seriously wounded in the attack.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has labeled the terror attack as, “This is one of New Zealand’s darkest days.”
PM Jacinda Arden said, “Clearly what has happened here is an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence. It is clear that this can now only be described as a terrorist attack.”
The extremists drove in a vehicle to the mosque and started shooting indiscriminately at the people gathered for Friday prayer. A video of this ghastly incident has been posted and has gone viral.
The New Zealand PM on the attackers said, “Many of these who would have been affected by this shooting may be migrants to New Zealand.”
She added, “They may even be refugees here. They have chosen to make New Zealand their home and it is their home… they are us. The persons who have perpetuated this violence against us … have no place in New Zealand.”
New Zealand police chief Mike Bush has revealed many explosive devices found attached to the cars in the city.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand police have urged people not to enter the mosque in the wake of this incident.
Four persons have been taken into New Zealand police custody, as per initial reports.
