Bhubaneswar: A portion of an under construction flyover of the Roads and Buildings Department collapsed at Bomikhal area in capital today killing at least two persons and injuring around 20 persons.
According to reports, while one person died on the spot, another person succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment in a hospital. Several others are reportedly trapped in the debris.
One deceased person has been identified as satya Patnaik of Jharpada area in Bhubaneswar. His minor daughter Sheetal Patnaik has been admitted to the AIIMS,Bhubaneswar in an extremely critical condition.
Around 20 injured have been rushed to Capital Hospital here for treatment.
Fire department and ODRAF personnel reached the spot for rescue operations. Sniffer dogs have also been pressed into service to locate trapped persons.
The officials of R&B Division reached the accident site to ascertain the cause of mishap.
Sources said that a company named Panda Infrastructure Developers were engaged in the construction work.
On the other hand, locals have alleged poor quality construction which led to the collapse of the concrete structure.
