5 suspected terrorist who escaped Odisha caught in AP

The 5 suspected terrorists, including two females, apprehended in Vishakhapatnam are the same who escaped from a hotel in Bhubaneswar after being asked to produce identity proofs on the eve of R-Day.

Crime Branch IG Arun Bothra said, the CCTV footage in the hotel and Girisola check gate in Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border matched with the persons and the vehicle carrying them.

The suspects have Iranian passports and were travelling in a Toyota car bearing registration number DL 6CG 1520. Their passports and the vehicle have been seized.

According to the sources, the Toyota car belonged to a person who owns a Karol Bagh-based jewellery shop and was rented by the Iranians from a Delhi-based travel agency.

Noting that all the five have been detained and not arrested, Bothra said an STF team is on its way to Visakhapatnam to ascertain the purpose of their visit to Odisha and why they fled from the hotel when identity proof was sought.

Notably, a suspected person on January 25 evening came in a car along with co-passengers to Bhubanswar-based Arya Mahal hotel and asked for two rooms at the hotel. When the receptionist asked him for an identity proof, he ran away from the spot.
