Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today announced that he will contest the 2019 elections from Odisha.
Dharmendra Pradhan, who is currently a Rajya Sabha member from Bihar said “I will be contesting from Odisha, whether Assembly or Lok Sabha, the decision will be taken by the party”.
He was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from Deogarh constituency in Odisha and was also an MLA the Odisha Assembly from Pallahara constituency during 2000 and 2004.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the sixth edition of Odisha Literary Festival here today, Dharmendra said the historic Paika Rebellion of Odisha has been poorly documented as a result of which Odisha has been deprived of its proper place in Indian history which it deserves.
“The first war of independence was fought in Odisha, a fact which was lost into oblivion due to lack of proper documentation. Before the Sepoy mutiny of 1857, Odia brave hearts like Jayee Rajguru, Buxi Jagabandhu and Veer Surendra Sai revolted against the mighty British Rule. “A literary festival in Odisha should ponder over such issues and debate such issues,” he stressed.
Making a scathing attack on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik he said, “Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has failed to live up to the expectations and aspirations of the youths of the Odisha”.
Dharmendra Pradhan also said, “Now people of Odisha want a change and no one can stop it from taking place. They want to uproot the present corrupt and inefficient BJD-led Government.”
