Bhubaneswar: Having already extended school holidays till April 26, the Odisha government today declared summer holidays from tomorrow after IMD anticipated temperature would drift around 42 degree Celsius at many area in the coming few days.
“As per the prediction of weather department, the mercury will hover around 42 degree Celsius at almost all places in the State. In view of the severe heat wave conditions, the State government has decided to declare the summer vacation from April 26. The schools will reopen after Raja festival as usual”, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradipta Mohapatra said.
However, the losses in terms of study days incurred due to the early announcement of holidays will be compensated through extra classes after Raja, he said. He said there are no obstacles in the conduct of examinations. “The school can conduct the test in the morning and evening,” Mohapatra pointed out.
The govt had initially announced school holidays till April 20 and later expanded it till 26 when the warmth wave conditions hinted at no yielding.
