IIT, Bhubaneswar PhD Student Files Sexual Harassment Case Against Professor


Bhubaneswar: The PhD student of IIT, Bhubaneswar who had earlier leveled sexual harassment charges against a senior professor today lodged a formal complaint against the professor and some other officials of the institute at Mahila police station here.

The student who hails from West Bengal, has lodged an FIR against Professor PD Reddy for allegedly sexually harassing her and some officials of the institute for assisting the professor to hush up the matter.

IIT, Bhubaneswar authorities have termed the allegations leveled by the student as ‘baseless’. In a press communiqué, the authorities have clarified that the girl had taken admission in IIT, Bhubaneswar in July 2011 and brought the allegation of sexual harassment on October 6, 2016.

“The matter was then referred to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). However, she was not satisfied with the investigation report prepared by the IIC of the institute and has now raised her voice once again seeking justice,” the release said.

“Nothing is pending with the institute in this regard and all statutory requirements have been completed holistically,” it stated.

Challenging the report of the ICC, the girl has lodged the complaint at the Mahila police station.
