Fugitive Retired Kolkata High Court judge Justice CS Karnan, who was sentenced to six months imprisonment by Supreme Court for contempt, was finally arrested in Coimbatore today by West Bengal police.Justice Karnan retired on 12 June and was on the run. He has the dubious distinction of being the first sitting high court judge to be awarded a jail term by the apex court.
A seven-judge bench headed by the CJI held Karnan guilty of contempt and ordered six months imprisonment for him. After arrest by the Bengal police he is flown back to Kolkatta and will be lodged in Presidency jail.
