Locals Manhandle Doctor, Police Officer In Nayagarh Over Minor’s Death

Nayagarh: Tension mounted up in and around the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here as irate locals manhandled medical staff including a doctor and an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police following the death of a seventh class student.

Reports said that one Rakesh Swain (13) from Damasahi here was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition this morning due to snake bite.

The attending doctors and staff declared the minor boy Rakesh dead while under treatment. On  hearing the news of Rakesh’s death his family alleged medical negligence as the reason behind the death.

The kin of the deceased along with some locals manhandled a doctor and two other staff of the hospital and blocked NH-57 keeping Rakesh’s body on road.

On being informed, a police party from Nayagarh Sadar police station reached the spot to pacify the irate mob during which ASI Nrusingha Panigrahi was allegedly manhandled by some women who tore apart his uniform.

However, the hospital authorities have denied medical negligence allegations.

Latest reports said that Rakesh’s body was handed over to his parents after post-mortem.
