Malkangiri : 200 Maoist Supporters Surrender Before Police

Malkangiri: In yet another jar to the Maoists, around 200 sympathizers of the banned CPI (Maoist) on Monday surrendered before the Malkangiri police here.

The surrendered rebel supporters are inhabitants of Lulei, Keranjaba, Dutibata and Kadabhatta towns under Mathili police limits in the region, SP Mitrbhanu Mohapatra said.

Frustrated over the Maoist activities, they decided to shun violence and join mainstream, police said adding they will be rehabilitated as per government norms.

With these, over 550 rebel sympathisers have already surrendered in the district this month.

On March 13, 57 Maoist sympathisers, including 25 women, of Mathili area had surrendered before police while hundreds of such people had returned to mainstream the next day.

Similarly, 19 Maoist supporters, including five militia members, had given up arms on March 12. They belong to Khatuapadar village under Mathili police limits.
