A dead whale was found on shore on Thursday night at Mumbai’s Juhu beach.

As per the reports, the 35-foot long whale, said to weigh around 4 tonnes was spotted late night by some night joggers.

The incident comes weeks after 45 short-finned pilot whales were stranded along a 15-km beach stretch in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.

Police and forest department officials are examining the animal. A team of four veterinarians are likely to conduct autopsy at the beach and then move the carcass to the forest department’s conservatory in Airoli.

According to experts, the whale is known as Bryde’s whale.

“From initial examination, the whale seems to have died a day or two back. It bloated and was then carried in by the tide to the beach,” Assistant Conservator of Forest was quoted as saying by DNA.
