New Delhi(Samaya Bureau): The political parties opposed to the NDA government at the Centre today announced it will field former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar against the NDA’s nominee Ram Nath Kovind in the Presidential election to take place on July17.
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had invited several leaders of the political parties to take a final decision on the election-whether to support Kovind or put up a joint candidate.
The opposition parties too like the ruling BJP has played the Dalit card. Meira Kumar, daughter of late Jag Jeeevan Ram hails from the most backward caste and also comes from Uttar Pradesh like Kovind.
