TN Polls : Cong-DMK Seat-Sharing Talks Unresolved

CHENNAI: Senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mukul Wasnik and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president EVKS Elangovan held seat-sharing talks with DMK chief M Karunanidhi here on Friday, ahead of the assembly election in the state.

After the meeting, which was held at Karunanidhi’s Gopalapuram residence, Azad told reporters that the leaders of both parties had discussed poll strategy. “Some parties have joined DMK. DMK expects some more small groups to join it,” he said.

Asked about seat-sharing talks, Azad said, “We have not firmed up seat-sharing numbers.”

According to sources, Congress asked for 63 seats, while DMK was prepared to offer 30-40 seats. In the 2011 assembly election, Congress contested 63 seats in alliance with DMK and won five.
