Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has announced to sanction Rs 20 lakh for renovation and modernisation work of Annapurna Theatre lying now in a dilapidated condition in the holy town Puri. The fund will be sanctioned from State Culture department.
Approving the proposal given by Puri MLA and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Maheswar Mohanty, Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda took the major the major initiative to revive the theatre.
Annapurna Theatre, which bears Odisha’s cultural heritage by keeping theatre revolution alive, can be transformed into a modern cinema hall with the government aid, said Culture Minister Ashok Chandra Panda.
Established in 1936, Annapurna Theatre – a pioneer Threatre Company in Odisha – has created a number of artists in the past 80 years. Following the grand success of the theatre, Annapurna-B theatre was born in Cuttack which too is struggling for its identity now.
