CJI Dipak Misra Bats For Concrete Action Plan For Juvenile Offenders’ Rehabilitation

Cuttack: A concrete action plan is the need of the hour to ensure that juvenile offenders return to the main stream through proper counseling and concrete rehabilitation programme, stressed Chief Justice of India(CJI) Dipak Misra today here while speaking at the State-level conference on ‘Juvenile Justice: Issues and Challenges’.

“It is only through proper employment, juveniles in conflict with law can be persuaded to return to main stream,” said Dipak Misra adding that state governments as well as corporate houses will have to play a big role in this direction.

Some source of employment and regular income is to be provided to them so that there can be a feedback system to see they do not return to crime as very often the juveniles feel that they are not properly looked after emotionally either by family members, their teachers and the society as a whole, the CJI felt.

Magistrates of Juvenile Boards, police and other officers should not get carried away by their own individual biases and rather they need to have a rational approach and be guided by certain fixed parameters, rules and guidelines of the Juvenile Justice Act, CJI Dipak Misra said.
