Jharkhand Police Unearths Ivory Smuggling Racket, Arrests One In Mayurbhanj


Baripada: Jharkhand police today nabbed a man from Padampur village under Jashipur police station limits in Mayurbhanj district for ivory smuggling. The arrested person has been identified as Abdul Rashid Hussain of Padampur village.

Acting on an intelligence information, a 17-member team of Jharkhand police with the help of the local raided the house of Rashid Hussain at Padampur this morning and arrested him. Ivories, deer horns, skins and bones of many birds and animals including elephants were seized during the raid. The police also seized Rs 14,27,470 from Rashid Hussain’s house.

The accused, meanwhile, has been taken to Jharkhand for interrogation.

Sources said that the neighbouring state police had busted the ivory smuggling racket after arresting a man in Jharkhand who had named Rashid Hussain during his interrogation.

Abdul Razid Hussain is said to be the mastermind of the ivory smuggling racket. Police suspect his involvement in the poaching of elephants, animals and birds in Simlipal National Park in the district. .
