The special CBI Court in Panchkula has convicted charges of murder on jailed Sacha Sauda Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim on Friday. The CBI Court convicts Ram Rahim of shooting a journalist in 2002. However, the quantum of sentence will be pronounced on January 17.
The murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati back in 2002 born out of a news article published in his newspaper ‘Poora Sach’ about women being sexually exploited by Ram Rahim at Dera headquarters in Sirsa.
This revelation prompted then Dera Manager Krishan Lal to gift a licensed revolver and a walkie-talkie of the Dera to the two shooters – Kuldeep Singh and Nirmal Singh in the presence of Dera chief.
The CBI has charge sheeted these facts against the Dera chief and other accused.
Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed in the Panchkula district after this development. While the 51-year old Gurmeet Ram Rahim continues to be serving a 20 year jail sentence in Rohtak Sunaria’s jail for raping two of his women followers.
The self styled godman’s case had been pursued by CBI since 2006. On August 25, 2017 Ram Rahim was convicted which triggered large protest by his followers leading to loss of lives and damage to public property.
