The former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths on the night of August 21 followed severe criticism by the Congress party on Thursday.
Congress party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala expressed utter dissent over the arrest of Chidambaram. He said, such a manner of arrest is vindictive politics by the Centre. It is a murder of democracy in broad daylight.
Surjewala aimed at the ruling government and said, it is using the powers of CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) to seek personal revenge. He clearly condemned the arrest of the former Union Finance and Home Minister.
The Congress spokesperson mocked the CBI officials. He said false charges have been implicated on Chidambaram by the CBI. He addressed to the nation not to be a mute spectator.
Earlier on the night of August 21, CBI sleuths got a tip-off against P Chidambaram’s whereabouts after he was tracked in video footages at the Congress party headquarters in Delhi.
The former Congress minister was arrested from his residence in Jor Bagh in full public and media view after the CBI officials scaled the walls of his residence and entered his house premises.
The arrested senior Congress leader spent the night at the CBI guest house and will be produced before the Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday at 2PM.
