Two-time Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Om Birla was elected as the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha House by means of voice vote on Wednesday.
The BJP’s majority of 353 seats out of 543-Lok Sabha capacity clearly favoured in support of Birla.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi passed his voice vote in support of Om Birla as the Speaker of the Lower House followed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Opposition parties-Congress, DMK, Biju Janata Dal (BJD), AIADMK, YSR Congress and other parties, too hand out their support for Birla in unison.
Om Birla who represents the Kota-Bundi constituency as a Member of Parliament is also a three-time Member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from Kota South. He has been active in politics since his youth days starting his career with the BJP youth wing.
The Indian PM as well as the Leader of the House said congratulating Birla, as a concerned and smiling leader.
