NEW DELHI: More than 19 individuals, including the SHO of Barakhamba police station, were harmed on Tuesday after a group of protester clashed with the police outside Manipur Bhavan in SP Marg on Tuesday evening.
The fomenters were protesting against the Inner Line Permit (ILP) System-related bills that had been gone in Manipur.
The police said three vehicles, including PCR vans, were also harmed amid the conflict.
According to the police, the protesters broke barricades set up around Manipur Bhawan in Sardar Patel Marg and tried to enter the premises of the building. As the clash aggravated, the police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. One police officer is said to have sustained a stab wound during the lathi charge.
“We had to call for backup from adjoining police stations and sub-divisions after the protesters grew in number and refused to disperse,” a senior police officer said.
Water cannons were also used to control the crowd, he added.
