The Supreme Court quashed petitions of the Centre and the Assam government on Tuesday to re-verify the National Register of Citizens (NRC) of the Assam citizens to list out illegal immigrants in the state.
The SC bench headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi ruled that the verification of NRC is not an option. Residents born after Dec 3, 2004 will be excluded from the NRC if one of the parents is a suspected voter or foreigner pronounced by any tribunal court.
The SC bench added, an Aadhar like scheme to be followed for the NRC list security. People not included in the NRC will have their names flashed online on August 31.
