Bhubaneswar: Gas-Filled Balloons Explode at Airport Square, 11 Students Injured


A gas-filled balloons exploded at Airport Square in Bhubaneswar in which as many as 11 students got injured.

There were nine girls out of 11 students.

The injured students have been admitted to the Capital Hospital.

Hospital superintendent Binod Mishra said, “They sustained burn injuries on forehead, hands and other exposed parts of body. Their condition is stable and they are being treated at a special ward. The injured girls are from Ramadevi Women’s University.”


After getting the news, Law minister Arun Sahoo and BMC mayor Anant Narayan Jena rushed to the hospital.

The reason behind the explosion is yet to be revealed while Police is suspecting as it happened due to cracker blast near the place.

The mishap took place when the students were heading to Naveen Niwas with those gas-filled balloons.

Senior BJD leader Bishnu Das said, “Enthusiast students, who won the recently concluded college elections, came to Naveen Niwas to seek CM’s blessing and wish him on his birthday. When the balloons they have taken for the procession went off, some students and president of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) Byomakesh Ray sustained minor injuries.”
