Senior MLA and Congress leader Harihar Karan passed on Monday, he was 72. Karan was suffering from septicemia and died while being treated at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Monday.
He was elected MLA for five times from Daspalla constituency in Nayagarh.
Hariharan Karan was born on May 5, 1947. Political leadership qualities in him traces back to his college days. He studied in Madhusudan Law College and was the president of the student’s union from 1968 to 1971.
He joined state politics in 1974 under the Congress party. He was the General Secretary of PCC and AICC member in 2013.
In 1974, he got elected as MLA to the sixth assembly and second time in 1977 to the seventh assembly elections.
In 1980, he was a minister of Health and Family Welfare department.
