Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains, triggered by a low pressure has thrown life out of gear in many parts of Odisha today causing a flood-like situation in at least three districts.
With more rainfall predicted for the next 24 hours, the situation, it is feared, might worsen.
Flood-like situation prevailed in Kalahandi, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts following incessant rains, which caused several rivers to be in spate and inundate over six panchayats and snapping road links completely.
In Kalahandi, at least five villages and hundreds of acres of paddy fields were submerged and a large number of people have been left marooned.
Kalahandi district administration said a 10-foot breach in the Indravati left canal, near Ranibahal, led to the inundation of some villages. Power generation had been stopped at the Indravati Hydel project,” said the administration.
Likewise, a breach on NH-26 near Maidalpur in Nabarangpur district severely affected the vehicular movement. It virtually snapped the road links between Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts.
A flood-like situation stared at Malkangiri district as well. Road connectivity was snapped due to a landslide caused by heavy rains in the Chitrakonda area. The road links between Malkangiri and Balimela were cut off as water was flowing over a bridge.
