Leopard Skin Seized In Baripada


Baripada (Odisha)(PTI): Odisha’s forest department officials today arrested a tribal youth and seized the skin of a leopard belived to have been poached inside the Similipal Sanctuary limits.

The seizure was made at a place under Bisoi forest range. The man arrested on charge of smuggling with animal body parts was identified as Chandrai Murmu (22) of Dosisole village under Bangiriposi police station, said Laxmidhar Behera range officer.

Behera said the forest sleuths raided Bisoi’s house posing as a trader. They contacted Chandrai to purchase the leopard skin. While the youth was on his way in a bike to hand over the skin he was nabbed by the forest officials near Asanbani, Behera said.

The forest officials have also seized his bike used for smoggling of the remains of the wild cat. The seized leopard skin has a length of 5 feet 5 inches and breadth of 1 feet 6 inches added the official.
