Kendrapara: Hardly one month after the results of the annual high school certificate (HSC) examination were announced by the Board of Secondary Education(BSE) in Odisha, a student allegedly committed suicide at Santasahi in Kendrapara district today for securing poor marks in the examinations.
Ratikrushna Khuntia, son of Malaya Khuntia, a village-level worker (VLW), hanged himself from a ceiling fan in his house in Gopei village.
While the exact reason behind the suicide was still to be ascertained, the deceased’s family members alleged that he was in severe depression since the results were announced. He might have taken the extreme step for scoring marks lower than his expectation, they said.
According to sources, all the family members went to bed after having their dinner on June 8 night. They woke up in the morning only to find Ratikrushna hanging from the fan.
A police team soon rushed to the house on being informed and sent the body for an autopsy. The police registered a case of unnatural death and launched an inquest into the suicide matter.
