Rahul Gandhi Slams PM Modi, Odisha CM Naveen over Odisha’s Untapped Potential


Congress President Rahul Gandhi visited Odisha on Friday ahead of the General Elections and cited number of issues that Odisha is facing for years.

Addressing a public gathering at the Nua Sarsara Ground in Bargarh, the Congress President voiced on the suicide of farmers in the state.

Gandhi said, “Suicide of farmers is reported in the country daily as the Modi government did not keep its promises. He made tall claims on farmer’s welfare. But, the ruling government neither waived their loans, nor hiked the minimum support price of paddy.”

The Gandhi scion said, farmers are dying in the state due to Central government and state government’s apathy towards the farmers.

The Congress President also took potshots at the BJD government. He said, “Odisha has become the centre of unemployment. The youth of Odisha has to go out of the state to look for employment opportunities. What has Naveen Patnaik done for the youth of Odisha? No one can claim that CM and PM created jobs for them.”

On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi promised of cold storages and food processing units for the farmers. He prescribed of following the same model of development in Odisha as followed in Chhattisgarh.

Gandhi voiced his sentiments for Odisha saying, “Congress party wants to listen to you and wants to bring the India you want. India is like the ocean over here. We want to listen, understand and work with the ocean. Now there is RSS and BJP who doesn’t want to listen to people but to tell people about their ideologies. They don’t want to listen to the ocean.”
