Stone Mafias Try To Kill Tehsildars Under JCB Machine During Raid In Khordha


Khordha: Creating concern among field level officials of the state, stone mafias tried to crush a group of Tehsildars by running them over by a JCB in Patrapada Mouza under Badapokharia panchayat in the district during a raid on February 7.

The victim Tehsilars who had a close shave due to the attack were Khordha Tehsildar Subhendu Kumar Sahoo, Tangi Tehsildar Asish Kumar Jena and Chilika Additional Tehsildar Prithviraj Mandal.

The trio launched a crackdown on illegal stone quarries operating in the Tangi Tehsil. As a part of the crackdown several quarries operating in Olasingh and Badapokharia panchayats were raided.

However, during the raid at Badapokharia village a group of stone mafias gave the officials a proposal to release their seized vehicles by accepting bribe. As the officials declined the offer, the mafias attacked the three officials and snatched away at least two trucks, two JCB machines and eight power tillers.

While fleeing away with the vehicles from the spot, some of the attackers tried to mow down the Tehsildars trio under the wheels of a JCB machine. However, the trio managed to escape unhurt.

Later, Tangi Tehsildar lodged a case in the incident at Nirakarpur Police Station late in the night.

The OAS Officers’ Association has condemned the attack and warned of a stir if the culprit is not arrested in next two days.
