Patiala in Punjab: Two Odia lasses–sprint queen Dutee Chand and Purnima Hembrum made Odisha proud at the Indian Grand Prix Athletics Championships held at the National Institute of Sports here today.
While Dutee Chand clinched the gold medal in the 100m sprint event, Purnima Hembrum grabbed the bronze medal in the women Long Jump event in the Championships with a jump of 5.99 metre.
Dutee Chnd clocked a record timing of 11.57 seconds while Assam’s Hima Das and Karnataka’s Prajna Prakash won the silver and bronze medals with a timing of 11.74 seconds and 11.76 seconds respectively.
Nayana James and Neena Pinto, both from Kerla, bagged the gold and silver medals in the women Long Jump event in which Purnima Hembrum had to content herself with a bronze medal. .
