Indian cricket team ODI and T20 all-rounder Hardik Pandya and all-format opener KL Rahul have been considered for two match ODI ban after Pandya’s hook up admittance with multiple women on the Koffee with Karan show.
Pandya’s sexist remarks has drawn the ire of Committee of Administrators (CoA) Chief Vinod Rai, who has proposed for 2 match ODI ban for the two cricketers on Thursday.
Rai has forwarded an e-mail to BCCI CEO Rahul Johri that the remarks by the cricketers were “very crass”.
Earlier Pandya had apologized for his misogynist remarks after being tendered a show cause notice on January 9. But Pandya’s apology was not enough to cover up the issue. Hence, Vinod Rai stated, “I am not convinced with Hardik’s explanation and I have recommended for a two-match ODI ban for both players. However the final decision will be taken once Diana gives her go ahead.”
Rai in his mail has written, he has not seen the footage but read the print and has rejected any regret or apology from the all rounder. He has asked fellow CoA member Diana Edulji to suggest penalty.
Rai has asked Johri to draft an appropriate instruction and issue today since the two cricketers’ explanation has been received. He has asked to prepare an advisory separately to all BCCI contracted players and support staff.
In the mean time, Edulji has directed the matter to BCCI’s legal cell.
Rai further states, “Diana has sought legal opinion whether the duo can be banned. So, obviously a decision will be taken once she gives her nod. As far I as am concerned, the comments were crass, in bad taste and unacceptable.”
The Indian opener KL Rahul present on the show though had a more moderate gesture. The two players were given a day’s time to give their response to BCCI.
The Indian team is slated for a 3-match ODI series against Australia on January 12.
