Bhubaneswar: The Union Budget declaration for setting up of a Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Odisha has led to demand from many regions of the state for location of the premier institute in their locality. This has also led to agitations to urge the Government to agree to respective proposals.
Flooded with proposals from various quarters, the Odisha government has decided to set up a panel to scrutinize the proposals, before it can send a list of possible locations to the Centre.
“We have received proposals from almost all the districts to set up the IIM in their localities. While MPs and MLAs have urged to set up the premier institute in their region, several organisations and institutes have also joined in the chorus. We would form a panel to scrutinize the proposals before recommending it to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD),” officials said.
The committee, to be headed by chief secretary, will have officials from ET&T, Higher Education and other concerned departments.
The panel will examine each proposal from every aspect proposed by the Centre. It would finalise three suitable locations with rail, road and air connectivity and better healthcare facility, the official said.
