Bhubaneswar: A Sri Lankan fishing vessel was seized and its crew members were arrested by Indian Coast Guard officials on Wednesday for violating international maritime law and entering into prohibited marine zone. The vessel was intercepted about 169 nautical miles off Paradip coast.
The Sri Lankan vessel carrying fishermen had reportedly entered into prohibited coastal territory and arrested crew members were found to be fishermen. They were later handed over to Paradeep Marine Police. The boat with modern communication gadgets was spotted fishing in Indian coastal waters of Bay of Bengal, close to the sea border of Bangladesh, sources said.
It can be recalled that on April 4 this year too, a Sri Lankan vessel was intercepted by Indian Coast Guards, but its four crew members were released after directions from the Centre.
