Low pressure triggers rains across Odisha, more expected in next 24 hours


Bhubaneswar: While several parts of Odisha received intermittent rainfall on Friday, the regional meteorology centre predicted that the low pressure triggered showers, with thunderstorms are likely to continue at least for the next 24 hours.

The showers also affected the much awaited annual Ganesh festival celebrations, which began on Friday. Wet Puja pandals, sporadic rain and mud, did upset the devotees and the organisers of puja manadps to at several parts of the state, revealed reports.

Meanwhile, officials of city based Met centre on Friday predicted that several places in coastal, southern and northern Odisha wouldreceive medium to heavy rains in the next 24 hours, which would also be accompanied with gusty surface wind with velocity 45-65 km/hour. Besides, there is chance of another low pressure over Bay of Bengal in the next three days, which would result in more rains in the state around September 3-4, informed Met sources.
