Bhubaneswar: The Odisha human rights commission (OHRC) has asked the state government to conduct a Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) probe into the death of tribal nursing student Sunita Raita of Gajapati district and submit the report within four weeks time. Raita allegedly committed suicide for delay in receiving her ITDA stipendiary money, sources said.
Raita before taking the extreme step on August 13 in her suicide note blamed the district administration and ITDA authorities for not releasing her stipendiary money. The unusual delay stopped her from paying her dues. As her nursing college authorities had warned her to pay the dues, else she would not be permitted to appear the examinations, Raita stated in her suicide note that she was forced to kill herself.
The OHRC has directed the Odisha government to conduct a probe by RDC southern and find out the events that forced the poor tribal student to commit suicide. The commission was hearing a petition filed by human rights activist and lawyer Prabir Kumar Das, sources added.
