Oman Withholds Odia Workers

A group of 17 Odia workers have been stuck in Oman including eight of them belong to Asika, Kodala and Chhatrapur regions of the Ganjam district. The rest 9 are learnt to be from Bhubaneswar and Balasore.

A private organization in Bhubaneswar had made arrangements for their work in Oman. The workers served under J & P Company. For the last few months, the company failed to provide food and treatment cover to the workers. The workers are said to be not being paid for the last 5 months. Even their visa and passport are not being returned.

This led to workers unrest leading to protest against the company’s policy and motive. The Muscat police are investigating the matter.

Not only Odia workers, but workers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal are also trapped in the fiasco.
